Who We Are

Welcome to SCCBA ~ you're home for an engaged legal community.

History and Background

Established in 1917, Santa Clara County Bar Association is one of the oldest Bar Associations in the state of California, and is the largest Bar Association in Santa Clara County. Our mission is to provide education and support to member attorneys, advance the local administration of justice and serve the public by fostering an improved understanding of and access to the legal system.

Our mission and core values are built upon a philosophy of community and belonging. As the largest voluntary bar association in the Silicon Valley, we believe all Silicon Valley attorneys belong here and benefit from our reputation for warmth, courtesy, excellence, professionalism, integrity, ethicality and collegiality. As partners in equity and justice, our positive relationship with our Bench is unparalleled. And our staff take great pride in being key players in fostering our ongoing and on-growing relationships in our community.

Governance

SCCBA is a tax-exempt 501(c)6 organization overseen by a dedicated Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is comprised of 17 members which include an Executive Committee of four Officers, President, President-elect, Treasurer, Secretary, and 2 Trustees at large, and a Finance Committee of our four Officers and two members of the Association at large. In an effort to be as inclusive and as representative of the entire county as possible, the Board of Trustees also holds seats for the Presidents of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Black Lawyers Association, La Raza Lawyers Association, and the Chairs of the Barristers, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Women Lawyers sections.

While the Trustees are charged with governance and the fiscal stewardship of the organization, the day to day operations are overseen by the CEO & General Counsel.
