Student Application Requirements

The application deadline is December 6, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.

Please familiarize yourself with each component of the application and give yourself ample time to complete each section. It is each student's responsibility to ensure that the deadline is met and that they submit the evaluation form to their instructors with time for them to complete it. A completed application includes: The downloadable application (with cover sheet), resume, personal statement, and legal writing evaluations.

Personal Information

The application will ask for your current contact information, as well as optional demographic information.

Resume

When completing the downloadable application, please upload a PDF version of your current resume.

Personal Statement

To assist the Selection Committee in learning about you, your goals, and your future plans, the Selection Committee will review your personal statement and consider your writing skills and organization. Please do not exceed 750 words.

Please incorporate responses to the following questions in your statement. You may organize your responses and thoughts in any order that best communicates your message.

  • What aspects of your past life, background, and/or personal experiences as a diverse individual brought you to where you are today? Please highlight those experiences for the Committee’s consideration.
  • Why have you chosen law as a career?
  • What are your short and long term goals?
  • Why do you wish to participate in this program?

Evaluation Form

Students should provide their legal research and writing instructor with the blank evaluation form (included in the application packet). If you have any questions about the Program, please contact the BAMSCP Co-Chairs (Jennifer Leung and Manda McElrath) via email at bamscpcochairs@gmail.com.

Selection

Selection will be based on indicia of intellect, effective verbal and written communication skills, leadership, integrity, resourcefulness, and other characteristics, which demonstrate a candidate’s potential for success within the legal community. Each school is responsible for verifying the student's academic standing. The candidate’s life experience, potential for success, involvement with the community, and achievements will receive strong consideration.

The applications are initially reviewed by a reviewing committee to determine which students the Selection Committee will interview. Following first-round interviews, the Selection Committee will determine (based on the students’ skills, potential, and practice area preference) which students will move on to second-round interviews with the participating employers. The employers will interview the selected students and provide their feedback to the Selection Committee, which will then meet again to make the final selections and match students with employers. Students are notified of selection and given one week to respond, after which employers are notified of the student assigned to them.
